Steak ‘n Shake is undergoing a significant transformation, with the chain’s newly appointed chief “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) officer announcing a sweeping overhaul of ingredients and cooking techniques. The initiative, which the executive says aligns with the Trump administration’s broader health-focused agenda, aims to strip away processed additives and return the brand to what he calls “the glory days of fast food.”
In a recent statement, the MAHA officer emphasized that the company is committed to sourcing higher-quality beef, eliminating artificial preservatives, and reintroducing traditional preparation methods. “We’re going back to the basics,” he said. “Customers remember when fast food tasted real and felt like a treat, not a science experiment. Our goal is to rebuild that trust by making every meal from scratch, using ingredients you’d find in your own kitchen.”
The revamp includes switching to fresh-cut fries cooked in beef tallow, a move reminiscent of pre-1990s fast food standards, and reintroducing hand-breaded onion rings. The chain also plans to remove high-fructose corn syrup and hydrogenated oils from its recipes. While the MAHA title draws a direct line to political health advocacy, the officer stressed that the changes are driven by consumer demand for transparency and nostalgia. “This isn’t about politics,” he said. “It’s about giving people the food they grew up loving, made the right way.” The rollout is expected to begin in select locations later this year.
