Crowell & Moring has added Jeff McSorley, a first-chair trial lawyer with two decades of litigation experience, to its Health Care Group in Washington, D.C. McSorley spent a decade as senior trial counsel in the Department of Justice Civil Division's Fraud Section, where he built a record as one of the government's most active health care fraud litigators.
During his time at DOJ, McSorley led more than 70 False Claims Act investigations. Those matters produced over $500 million in recoveries for the United States, a figure that reflects the scale and complexity of the cases he handled. His work centered on health care fraud, an area where the line between aggressive enforcement and legitimate business practice is often contested.
McSorley's move to private practice places him on the other side of the table from the agency where he spent years building cases. He will represent health care providers, suppliers, and other companies facing government scrutiny, internal investigations, and FCA litigation. His background gives him a detailed view of how DOJ builds and pursues fraud cases, from the first subpoena through trial.
The addition signals continued demand for lawyers who understand enforcement priorities from the inside. Health care companies face steady pressure from federal investigators, and firms are competing to hire attorneys with government experience. McSorley's trial record and his years of managing high-volume fraud investigations make him a notable hire for the firm's Washington office.
