A training program designed to improve how UK health workers talk about vaccines has proven so effective that it has led to the creation of a new social enterprise. The initiative, originally led by the University of Bristol, will now continue its work through a dedicated spinout company.
The program focuses on equipping healthcare professionals with better communication skills to address vaccine hesitancy. Rather than simply pushing information, the training emphasizes listening, understanding patient concerns, and building trust. Early results showed that health workers who completed the course felt more confident and better prepared to have difficult conversations about immunization.
The decision to spin out the program into a social enterprise came after demand grew beyond what the university could manage alone. The new organization will operate independently, allowing it to expand its reach and develop additional resources for clinics, hospitals, and community health settings.
Organizers say the goal is not just to increase vaccination rates but to improve the overall quality of health communication. By giving workers practical tools and real-world scenarios, the training helps bridge the gap between public health guidance and individual patient needs. The spinout will also explore partnerships with other health systems interested in adopting similar approaches.
The move marks a shift from academic research to a sustainable, mission-driven business model. Leaders of the new enterprise hope it will serve as a model for how evidence-based training can be scaled to meet ongoing public health challenges.
