Auburn football injury updates: Where Tigers' health stands for Week 2

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze gave a brief update on the team's health Monday as the Tigers turn their full attention to Southern Miss after a season-opening win. While Freeze did not offer a deep dive into every player's status, he did confirm that the roster came out of the Week 1 matchup in relatively good shape overall.

The most notable concern remains along the offensive line, where the Tigers were already thin before the opener. Freeze indicated that a couple of linemen are still being evaluated day to day, but he stopped short of ruling anyone out for Saturday. He said the medical staff is taking a cautious approach with those guys, especially given the physical nature of the game against Alabama A&M.

On the defensive side, the news sounds more encouraging. A few players who were banged up during fall camp have been cleared to increase their workload in practice this week. Freeze specifically mentioned that the secondary should get a boost, with at least one cornerback expected to see more snaps after being limited in the opener.

When asked about Southern Miss coach Will Hall's comments on Auburn's physicality, Freeze said he appreciated the respect but knows his team has plenty to clean up. He stressed that the Tigers cannot afford to look past anyone, especially with a road game at Cal looming the following week. The key, he said, is getting healthier while staying sharp on fundamentals.

Kickoff for the Southern Miss game is set for Saturday afternoon at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The team will release its official availability report later in the week.
