Boone Health marked the opening of its latest ambulance station in south Columbia with a dedication ceremony and open house on Monday morning. The new facility is designed to shorten emergency response times for residents in the growing southern part of the city, an area that has seen increased call volume in recent years.
Paramedics on site said the station's strategic location allows crews to reach nearby neighborhoods and major roadways much faster than before. Previously, ambulances had to travel from central or north-side posts, which added critical minutes during medical emergencies. The new building includes crew quarters, equipment storage, and a dedicated parking bay for ambulances, allowing staff to mobilize without delay.
Boone Health officials emphasized that the investment is part of a broader effort to modernize emergency services and meet the needs of a rapidly expanding community. The station is staffed around the clock with advanced life support teams. Local leaders who attended the event praised the move as a practical step to improve public safety.
The open house gave visitors a chance to tour the facility and talk with paramedics about their work. No timeline was given for additional stations, but officials hinted that further expansions could be considered if demand continues to rise.
