Born to Soar: First Baby Born at Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital Receives Polk State Foundation Scholarship

When baby Liam entered the world at 11:44 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, weighing 7 pounds 1 ounce and measuring 20 inches, he became the first baby born at Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands. But his arrival came with an unexpected bonus: a full-ride scholarship to Polk State College.

The hospital, which opened its doors earlier this year, partnered with the Polk State College Foundation to offer the unique gift. The scholarship covers tuition and fees for Liam to attend the college when he is ready, effectively giving him a head start on his future education.

Liam's parents, who were surprised by the announcement, said they were already overjoyed with their healthy newborn. The scholarship, they noted, was an incredible added blessing. Hospital staff celebrated the milestone birth with a small ceremony, presenting the family with a certificate and a stuffed toy.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by the hospital to invest in the local community. By tying the first birth to an educational opportunity, officials hope to highlight the importance of early childhood development and long-term academic support. For now, Liam's parents are focused on sleepless nights and diaper changes, but they know that a college fund is already waiting for him.
