Nearly two years have passed since clinicians at Bicycle Health voted to unionize, yet they remain without a contract. Representatives of the Union of American Physicians and Dentists say bargaining has moved slowly, leaving staff frustrated as they continue to work under the same conditions that prompted their organizing effort in the first place.
The vote was seen at the time as a milestone for labor organizing in digital health, an industry that expanded rapidly during the pandemic. Clinicians at the telehealth company, which focuses on opioid addiction treatment, cited concerns about heavy caseloads, inadequate support staff, and a lack of input in clinical decisions. They hoped union representation would give them a stronger voice in shaping how care is delivered.
Since then, negotiations have reportedly stalled over key issues, including compensation, scheduling, and job security. Union representatives argue that management has been slow to respond to proposals and has not bargained in good faith. Company officials have said they respect the right to organize and are committed to reaching a fair agreement, though they have not offered a timeline for when that might happen.
Workers involved in the effort describe a growing sense of disappointment. Many say the delay has made it harder to retain experienced clinicians, which in turn affects patient care. Turnover at telehealth providers was already a concern before the union vote, and staff say the lack of progress has only worsened the problem.
Labor experts note that first contracts often take a year or more to negotiate, especially when employers resist specific proposals. But two years without an agreement is unusual and can erode trust between workers and management. For the clinicians at Bicycle Health, the wait continues, and with it, questions about whether their historic vote will translate into tangible change.
