Arlington ISD back-to-school event provides free supplies, health screenings to families

Arlington ISD is making sure thousands of students start the new school year with what they need, both in their backpacks and for their overall well-being. The district hosted its annual back-to-school event, offering free school supplies and health screenings to families across the community. The gathering drew a large crowd of parents and kids, all eager to get a head start before the first bell rings.

Beyond the usual pencils and notebooks, the event focused on removing barriers that can hold students back. Families could access vision and dental checks, as well as immunization updates, all in one place. For many parents, that convenience is a huge relief. Instead of juggling multiple appointments and expenses, they could handle several needs in a single afternoon. Organizers also brought in community partners to provide information on nutrition, mental health resources, and after-school programs.

The goal, according to district staff, is simple: when kids have the tools and a clean bill of health, they are more likely to show up ready to learn. Teachers and volunteers were on hand to help students pick out backpacks and even get a free haircut, which added a boost of confidence for the first day. With the event wrapped up, Arlington ISD says it is looking forward to a strong start and hopes the momentum carries through the entire year.
