In response to a troubling rise in student suicides, a group of alumni has come together to form a mental health council aimed at addressing the urgent needs of the campus community. The council's primary objective is to collaborate with current undergraduates to enhance awareness of available mental health resources and support systems at the university.
Since 2022, at least four undergraduate students have tragically taken their own lives, prompting a wave of concern among alumni, faculty, and students alike. The council intends to foster open conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and ensure that students feel comfortable seeking help when needed.
By organizing workshops, informational sessions, and peer support initiatives, the council aims to create a supportive environment where students can thrive both academically and emotionally. The initiative underscores a growing recognition of the importance of mental health on college campuses and the need for proactive measures to support students facing challenges.
